How do I check how much sugar is in my kid's Halloween candy?
Spread the candy out, take one photo with Skelly, and type your child's age: Skelly counts each piece, adds up the sugar from US label data and shows how many days of the 25 g daily limit the bag holds. By hand, add up the grams of sugar on each wrapper and divide by 25.
How to check sugar in Halloween candy, step by step
- Spread the candy out. Pour the haul onto a table and spread it so every wrapper is visible, with no pieces stacked.
- Take one photo. Open Skelly and tap the big button to snap a photo, or upload one. The photo is analysed once and never stored.
- Let Skelly count. An AI vision model identifies each candy and counts the pieces while Skelly dances (if you want).
- Enter your child's age. Type the age so Skelly can compare the total with the American Heart Association limit: under 25 g of added sugar a day for ages 2โ18, none under 2.
- Read the verdict and pacing plan. See total sugar in grams and teaspoons, how many days of the daily limit it is, and a suggested number of pieces per day.
How to do it without the app
Read the Nutrition Facts on each wrapper (fun-size packs have their own labels), add up the grams of sugar, then divide by 4 for teaspoons and by 25 for days of a child's daily limit. Skelly's fun-size sugar chart has label values for 28 popular candies.
What Skelly does with your photo
The photo is downscaled on your device, sent once to the vision model to count candy, and discarded. Nothing is stored, and no account is needed. Results are estimates: hidden or overlapping pieces can be missed, and the app marks estimated sugar values with "est.".
